We are pleased to have actually started Quilt Recipes to provide patterns FOR the PC Quilter and have been involved actively in the product for many years! So you can purchase our patterns worry-free!

Here are some things that you can expect when you purchase our patterns:

  • Every pattern set includes not only the TXT, but a WMF file which is a vector-based format that can allow you to print it out quite large for a catalog or template for placement. In addition, you will receive a GIF file which is a low res image that you can use on your website if you quilt for others and advertise in that manner.
  • All patterns have had point reductions made so that they will sew smoothly without "crowded" points. The patterns can be sewn out DOUBLE the supplied size without any loss of detail. We advise you check by sewing out a single repeat if you are going to sew larger than that. Remember that if you sew out a pattern much smaller you need to shorten your stitch length and sew out slower so you do not lose detail. It is a good idea to check by sewing out the pattern first in this case too.
  • Many of our patterns have PAUSE points inserted to make sure you get points and sharp turns when you should!
  • Almost all our patterns contain a COURTESY JUMP which is an aid for lining up your pattern. You will find info on Courtesy Jumps in the PCQ-U Classroom in a box.
  • When a pattern only looks good with a certain overlap, we provide a % of the height sewn. We also do this when the pattern is a two row pattern - for example, it has an alternate row.
  • Please view some common issues below as because the PC Quilter is tied to pattern commands and mathematical (as opposed to visual) resizing, some users can be confused.

  1. We sometimes get asked HOW someone should line up alternate rows when they are sewing them out because there is no reference to the previous row.. Most of us here use the same trick regardless of what system it is on! Try sewing a repeat out on freezer paper, marking the first sewing point, and then trimming near the outside edge of sewing. Do this for the main, and any alternate row. Then, use them as a template. It makes things so easy. Just remove the courtesy jump and line up your needle with the first point of the pattern on the template. You can also use this template trick for lining up triangles, or patterns in hard to fit blocks. Just make sure you keep the template straight! If you want to make sure it stays straight, try stitching a straight line edge to edge down the part of it parallel with the rollers before you sew your test.
  2. Many users still use Math_Help, and sometimes they will load a pattern and have it Math_Help complain that it won't work. While many of our older patterns contain the hard-coded pattern commands, some newer patterns and those that have been redigitized do not. To have Math_Help work with QT Menu, all patterns must have Adjust Width selected and a ? put in the box next to it and Adjust Length selected and a ? put in the box next to it. In addition, if the pattern is repeating, you would need to select Repeat Right and put a ? in the repeat box.
  3. If you are using a newer version of the quilt program it has several small bugs.  Basically the patterns should sew just like it previews on the first page of QT Menu.  If it does not you can call us for a work around.  The current problems have been ongoing for since June 2007 and predominently cause lines to disappear from a pattern!  PC Quilter tech support is aware of the issue, but a new release has not been issued to fix the bug. YOU should not be affected unless you are using a design that starts or ends with a long, straight line.

If you have some tricks or tips you would like us to add to this page, please let me know and we will be happy to give you credit!
